Devlin’s Country Bistro vs The Brantford Club: A Country Dinner Out, and a Room in Town

Devlin’s Country Bistro is a restaurant and caterer at 704 Mt Pleasant Road in Mount Pleasant, Ontario, serving dinner Wednesday to Friday and sending its mobile kitchens across Ontario, as its own site puts it. The Brantford Club keeps its dining rooms at 98 George Street, Brantford, where executive chef Eric Wasylenky’s kitchen cooks for one party in one room, eight to sixty.

Devlin’s own pages, read September 17, 2026, put the bistro at 704 Mt Pleasant Rd, Mount Pleasant, ON N0E 1K0, with dinner served Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 4:30 to 9:00 p.m. and the door closed Saturday through Tuesday. The phone is 519-484-2258, texts go to 519-410-6595, the email is devlins@devlinscountrybistro.com, and a table is reserved through its OpenTable link. Catering has a line of its own, 548-900-9270, by call or text. The reader still here is weighing a dinner out in the county against a room held in the city.

Three Nights a Week on Mount Pleasant Road

Devlin’s Country Bistro is the right answer for the country dinner out, and its menu page makes the case. The card, as posted in September 2026, opens on a chef’s weekly soup, Gunn’s Hill baked brie, and oysters two ways; the large plates run to a Lovell spring trout, a Spanish Iberico pork chop, and wood-grilled steaks the menu credits to the Heleniak family of Norwich. The wine cellar page carries a bottle list dated April 2026. Its home page invites the reader to make what it calls the short drive to Mount Pleasant, and for a Thursday dinner for two or for six, that invitation is the one to accept. The Club has no public dining room to walk into and no hours to post, and a couple deciding at five on a Thursday should not write to it.

Dinner in town, by letter

For the couple who can name an evening ahead of time, the house in town is a letter away, and a first dinner there needs no membership. Put the date and the number at the table in one email; Eric Wasylenky plans the plates for your party from there.

What does The Brantford Club hold for a party of eight to sixty?

The Brantford Club has set its tables since 1898 in an Italianate house of about 1855 at 98 George Street, Brantford, once the residence of Dr. John Y. Bown. A private dinner here is one room of that house held for one party on the night they name, with the courses planned beforehand and cooked by the kitchen under executive chef Eric Wasylenky. By the Club’s own hosting sheet of September 2026, the Small Dining Room upstairs seats eight at one table, and the Main Floor Dining Room takes up to sixty, with a portable projector and screen. Club Manager Sabrina Van Leeuwen answers the enquiry, an email to manager@thebrantfordclub.com with the occasion, a date, and a rough count. A host holds a room here on the strength of the occasion alone; whether their name is on the Club’s roll is a separate matter and no part of the booking. The rest, rooms and terms, is on the page for private dinners at the house.

The Banquet Kitchen on Wheels, as Devlin’s Tells It

Devlin’s Country Bistro is also a caterer, and on its own pages the catering is the larger half of the business. Its home page puts the offer in seven words, we bring the banquet kitchen to you, and describes refrigerated trucks that cook on site. Its catering page sorts the work into six lanes, weddings and full-service events first, then drop-off buffets and corporate buffets from twenty guests. The full-service page tells a host what the trucks need at the hall: a well-lit workspace of about twenty feet by twenty, parking for a catering truck thirty-five feet long, and two dedicated twenty-amp circuits. Weddings are its specialty, in its own words, at more than two hundred a year. The Club does not host weddings, so the wedding is conceded whole; the Club hosts the dinners around one, and everything else from five to eighty. The Journal set a travelling kitchen beside the house once before, with Camp 31 on Paris Road, and that entry weighs who runs the party; this one weighs where the evening is.

A bottle you have in mind

Devlin’s pours from the cellar list on its wine page. At 98 George Street a particular wine or cocktail the host wants is brought in through the Club, and the bar runs as cash, host, or a hybrid of the two, settled when the date is fixed. A deposit equal to the room fee holds that date; the remaining terms sit on the private dining page.

Devlin’s Country Bistro vs The Brantford Club, County and City

Devlin’s column is from its menu, catering, and contact particulars, read in September 2026; the Club’s from its hosting sheet and its policies page. A host is asked to pass one line on to the guests, and the house wording on collars, hats and ripped jeans is short enough to quote in the invitation.

The Company Dinner and the Family Table, Held in Town

The Brantford Club takes two kinds of party more than any other. The first is the company dinner: a board that wants the meal after the meeting in the same house, a client evening with a slide before the main. That party goes to the Main Floor Dining Room, and the Club sets out how the house runs a company’s evening. The second is the family occasion: a fortieth anniversary, the table the night before a wedding. Eight of those sit upstairs in the Small Dining Room; a larger family takes a larger room. The host tells Sabrina Van Leeuwen the count, the date, and any dietary needs in the first message, and the kitchen knows the party before the first plate is set. The room and the kitchen are already in the house, as they have been since it opened as a club on the last night of 1898.

“Everything that comes to the table is cooked in this house. The distance between the stove and the chair is the length of a hallway, and you can taste it.”

Eric Wasylenky, Executive Chef

The Menu Page on George Street, and the Road Both Ways

Executive chef Eric Wasylenky runs the kitchen at 98 George Street, and his current seasonal card is posted on the Club’s site. For a private dinner the posted menu is the opening position and the party is the brief: courses chosen with the host, the count given to the kitchen, the Churchill Pork Chops for the table that asks. Devlin’s home page asks the reader for the short drive out to Mount Pleasant, and for the dinner it describes, that is a fair ask. The road runs the other way as well: a family in Mount Pleasant or Paris with an anniversary to mark, or a company in Cambridge with a board to feed, brings the occasion in to George Street and finds the room set; neither address prints a drive time, and none is printed here.

The road out to Mount Pleasant is for the dinner you choose from a card. The house on George Street has held its rooms for the dinner somebody planned, since 1898.

Settled before the reservation, or the enquiry

Is Devlin’s Country Bistro open on Saturday?

No, by the hours printed in its own footer in September 2026. Dinner is served Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 4:30 to 9:00 p.m.; the bistro is closed Saturday through Tuesday. A table is reserved through its OpenTable link or by calling 519-484-2258.

Does Devlin’s cater outside the County of Brant?

Yes. Its home page offers catering across Ontario, with mobile kitchens that cook on site. Its drop-off page says delivery beyond Brant may carry an additional charge; catering enquiries go to 548-900-9270 by call or text.

How many guests can a private dinner at The Brantford Club seat?

Eight at one table in the Small Dining Room upstairs, and up to sixty in the Main Floor Dining Room, by the Club’s own hosting sheet of September 2026. The house as a whole takes parties of five to eighty, and the Club Manager matches the count to the room.

Can a company bring its own wine to a dinner at The Brantford Club?

A particular wine or cocktail the host wants is brought in through the Club and served by the Club’s bar. The bar for the evening runs as cash, host, or a hybrid, settled with Sabrina Van Leeuwen, the Club Manager, when the date is fixed.

What should the first email to The Brantford Club say?

The occasion, a date or two, the approximate number of guests, and any dietary needs the kitchen should know. Send it to manager@thebrantfordclub.com, and the reply names the room that fits and the terms in plain words.
